This nine-story supportive housing project in Central Harlem was developed by Azimuth Development Group, Type A Projects, and Homeward NYC with a LIHTC allocation from NY State Homes and Community The building will include supportive housing rental units for homeless or at-risk young adults in a LGBTQ-affirming environment. Homeward provides on-site social services to support building residents as well as a community facility space for the broader community. The building includes a community room, gym, library/computer room, landscaped outdoor space and ample office space to support wrap-around service provision.
The design team lead by Kossar+Garry Architects had to work with a very limited budget for this affordable housing project. The project had to be approved by the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD).
The structural system consists of cast-in-place reinforced concrete flat slabs supported by reinforced concrete columns and shear walls bearing on a reinforced concrete mat and footings. Several different designs and variations were produced to help the developers maximize their budget.
