ERIK MADSEN, PE | Principal

Erik has over twenty years of experience in the design and construction of new building structures, adaptive reuse projects, property condition assessment and the design of temporary structures for construction. Prior to starting Madsen Consulting Engineering in 2010, he worked at DeSimone Consulting Engineering for more than eight years. He was a member of the current NYC Department of Buildings Code Revision Structural Technical Committee for the 2014 and 2022 NYC Building Code editions and for the new NYC Existing Building Code. Erik is the current President of the Structural Engineers Associations of New York (SEAoNY). He the longest tenured state delegate at the National Council of Structural Engineer’s Associations (NCSEA). Erik has taught at a number of schools and universities, and he is currently an adjunct faculty at NYU’s Schack School of Continuing Education. His renovation course is one of the most popular and intellectually rigorous courses in their continuing education department. Previously he was a visiting professor at Pratt Institute and an adjunct faculty member at New York Institute of Technology.

CRISTIAN VIMER, PhD, PE | Principal

Cristian has over twenty-five years of experience in structural design and management of complex projects. He holds a PhD in Structural Engineering from NYU Tandon School of Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Construction Management from the Technical University of Civil Engineering, Bucharest, Romania. Prior to founding this company, Cristian was a Principal and the Head of the Special Projects Group at Wexler Associates. You can find a list of Cristian’s published works here.

Cristian is a member of the current NYC Department of Buildings Code Revision Structural Technical Committees for the 2022 NYC Building Code and for the new NYC Existing Building Code. He continues to be involved in research projects related to structural degradation and he has taught as an adjunct professor various structural courses. He co-authored a book on health monitoring for infrastructure materials, published by Springer and he has published several articles in specialty journals and trade magazines.

JAMES RUVOLO, PE | Associate Principal

James received his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering in 2005 and his Master's Degree In Structural Engineering in 2006 from Cornell University. Before joining our team in 2013, he has previously worked for six years at DeSimone Consulting Engineers. He is in charge of design and management of multiple projects and he is an expert in reinforced concrete design - both for foundations and superstructure.

DAVID WHEELER, PE | Associate

Ever since joining DCI Engineers’s Seattle office in 2013, David has witnessed—hands on—Seattle’s transformation through engineering design solutions. His contributions have included a range of project types and materials, everything from wood podiums to steel high-rise structures.

Known for sharing his knowledge, David values his professional relationships as much as the work itself. Having recently joined the New York office, David brings valuable expertise in a variety of project types and has a proven track record of contributing to the team’s success.

Austin Etheridge | Project Manager

Austin holds a Master's Degree in Structural Engineering and a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from University of Georgia. Prior to joining our team in 2018 he worked for Georgia Civil and Whiting-Turner as a project and field engineer. He also worked as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at University of Georgia. Austin specialize in design of structural steel, plank and light gauge new structures and also in renovation and adaptive reuse of existing buildings.

Maria Bella | Project Engineer

Maria joined Madsen’s team in 2018 after receiving her Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering from Columbia University. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Bologna, granted with honors in 2016. Her specialty is reinforced concrete buildings, but she also worked on steel structures and renovation projects.

Jared joined Madsen’s team in 2019. He has more than 8 years of experience in drafting and structural and miscellaneous steel detailing. He is also involved in connection design.

Jared Ovelson | Steel Detailing Manager - SDS/2 Specialist

Jared joined Madsen’s team in 2019. He is our head Steel Detailer and coordinator of all steel detailing projects. He has more than 8 years of experience in drafting and structural and miscellaneous steel detailing. Jared is a specialist in SDS/2 and he is also involved in connection design.

Riya Maniar | Project Engineer

Riya received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Structural Engineering Rutgers University. She joined Madsen Engineering after completing her Master's. Prior to joining our team she interned for Trevcon Construction and for the NYC Parks Department. She also worked as a Research Assistant at Rutgers University. Riya is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) and she is the Editor in Chief of the Publications Committee.

Marija Bozovic | Project Engineer, Steel&Rebar Detailer

Marija joined Madsen’s team in 2019. She has a Bachelor’s degree from University of Montenegro and more than 12 years of experience in engineering and construction management. Marija is specialized in structural steel detailing and connection design, as well as concrete reinforcement detailing, but she is also involved in other structural design projects.

Cheng Han | Project Engineer

Cheng holds a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College. Prior to joining our team he worked at AECOM and as a Graduate Assistant at Manhattan College.

Cristina Carillo | BIM Manager, Revit Specialist

Cristina joined Madsen in 2016 and she has more than 15 years experience in Revit and she worked for more than 20 years as a Structural drafter. She is also involved in structural steel and reinforced concrete detailing. Cristina holds a Bachelor’s degree in architecture from Adamson University, in the Philippines and she has worked in Australia, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates and Guam before moving to the United States.
